Great round-head framing nailer, great price

Purchased the new FR350MAG because I wanted a full round head nailer (they hold better, esp on outdoor projects), and wanted enough power for full 16penny common nails. I have only framed out my basement since I got it, but so far love the nailer. Is an improvement over the FR350 (lighter, more power, easier to clear jams, and can shoot bigger nails), but identical in physical size. p Pluses: Light, good balance, comfortable to use, powerful, easy jam clearing, very easyloading magazine, good toe-nailing, good price for product.pMinuses: Double-fires often with standard trigger (as most nailers do). Called them and they sent restrictive fire trigger (free). Large size makes nailing in joist space, etc, difficult. Can't hold as many nails in the magazine as a clipped-head nailer (duh). pOverall a great nailer. Have used lots of framing nailers, and this is my favorite so far. Not sure about durability, since I do not frame houses for a living (though i've done a couple). Will update this review as I use this nailer more (a big shed project scheduled for spring!).
This is a very nice nail gun!

I am a home "handiman" who wanted a cost-effective nail gun to build a screened-in porch, large deck, and replace the defective wood siding on my house with Hardiplank, a cement based siding. I needed a gun that would drive round head nails. I was counting on this gun to drive a wide range of nail lengths and be able to vary the driven depth (critical for the cement siding). I am very pleased with the performance of this gun. I've driven between 5 and 10 thousand nails so far without one misfire or jam! I experimented with air pressure (75 to 80 pounds) and the depth adjustment on the gun and drove 2 1/2 in ring shank nails flush with the siding (countersinking is a no-no). It will countersink 3 1/4 smooth shank and ring shank nails without messing with the depth adjustment by cranking up the air pressure to 100 - 110 pounds.pHaving read other reviews regarding its Taiwan manufacture, I was a little unsure of my purchase until I opened the box. I was pleasantly suprised to fine a very well made and amazingly light gun, even with a full load of nails. ... I'd recommend it to anyone!

I bought a used FR350MAG over a year ago because I wanted a lighter round-headed nailer. I remodeled a friend's (HUGE) basement and built a 12x20 deck with this nailer, shot thousands of nails and never once did it misfire.

br /I'm a tool fanatic and love to keep my tools in good shape. I understand the want for a case, but the box it comes in does a pretty good job of keeping this thing protected and luggable. Box vs. case is not that big of a drawback, nor would I make it a major point in deciding which nailer to buy. If you plan to shoot a lot of nails, weight and reliability make all the difference in the world...especially if your shooting above your head or trying out some new-fangled yoga position hanging off a joist.
br /
br /As others have mentioned, I have inadvertantly double-tapped this thing a few times. It will definitely let you know you're alive, but a quick call to PC and you'll have yourself a new trigger that will eliminate the multiple bump-fire capability.
br /
br /Also, setting the depth may take a couple of test fires to get it right, but, again, I've had no real issues with that either.
br /
br /The bottom line: If you want a framing nailer that's lighter than most, easy to load/use and fires every time, buy this one. When it comes to air nailers, PC knows its stuff.

I gave this nailer four stars because it doesn't come with a case, and I don't think Porter Cable even makes an aftermarket case. Also, the depth of drive adjustment is not the greatest. That being said, this is a fine framing nailer and is lighter then most. I really like the way nails are loaded and advanced(it loads similar to the senco guns). Compared to the Hitachi NR83, it has similar power, it is better balanced, and has way fewer jams because of the way it advances the nail strips. pI think Porter Cable nailers are under-rated in general. The Hitachi's are extremely popular with framers here on the west coast, and they are good nailers. However, for less money, the magnesium PC framer is hard to beat. It is a hard working tool and I have had no problems with it so far. I have owned it about one year and it has been used for framing, sheathing, and decking. The only thing I have not liked is that it was difficult to adjust the depth of drive to allow for flush nailing decking boards with 8d nails. For framing applications, it has been basically maintenance free and pretty much flawless. I just keep it well oiled and work it hard.

I am a professed "Weekend Warrior", renovating my home in PA. Bought this nailer because the DeWalt model was so badly panned. I have not been disappointed. Have fired well over 1000 nails the only thing slowing me down is reloading. The gun will not fire with 2 or 3 nails left in the magazine, but other than that, it is flawless. After working for a few hours, the nailer does get heavy, but it is worth it not to have to hammer all those nails. I nailed down a 10' x 20' subfloor in about 1/4 the time it would have taken me with a hammer nail. No misfires. It is a joy to use!

I've only used it a few times but it seems to be a quality tool. I did experience a lot of kickback causing the gun to double fire. I called PC and they sent me a "restrictive" trigger for free. That solved the problem. I don't think you can go wrong with this tool.

Excellent product, performs as advertised. Watch for kickback when using nailer. Also recommend ordering free trigger for single release directly from manufacturer - Porter Cable-Delta

The framing crew likes this gun. It's light weight. It shoots the fat common nails that engineers are starting to specify, unlike the FR350A. Single fire is now an adjustment on the trigger so no accessory is needed. Depth adjustment requires an allen wrench. You will need a real air compressor that produces at least 9 cfm at 100 psi to keep up with bounce nailing subfloor and sheathing.

I have gone through over ,5000 nails and my nailer has performed flawlees. In both 2-3/8" and 3-1/2" long full head nails. I dropped my nailer a few times and it still continues to perform the way it did on the first day. The light weight was definitely a plus, since I used it to secure over 1800 square feet of 1" rough sawn boards on a garage roof that I was building. I also used the nailer in securing the framing made out of 2x6 lumber.

Great Nailer, No Case

This is a great nailer. It is much lighter than the FR350. The downside is that it does not come with a case. I have written to Porter Cable about the case and I was told that a case is not available for this model and that the FR350 case would not fit this nailer. Porter Cable recommended that I look for a fabric case from an aftermarket supplier.pI have 5 other Porter Cable Nailers. They ALL except the roofing nailer and this one came with a case. I work out of my truck and things bang around alot. This nailer already has a few dings and scratches because of this... I would have gladly paid more [money] for this nailer if it came with a case.

I purchased this nailer to use primarily in building and repairing three board fence. For this it does an excellent job in the field. It is also precise enough to use in more delicate jobs. I used it to build three benches from salvaged 1" barn floors. It worked like a high-powered finish nailer. Overall a solid tool that has paid for itself with time savings.

The weight and performance of the gun is great, but I bought it in anticipation of obtaining the single shot trigger which was highly touted by other reviewers. Porter Cable now advises that the single pull trigger is no longer available, so beware if that is a selling point for you! Someone should make an after market case to carry oil and tools.

Used this nailer for 1-1/2 years on home and cottage projects -decks, docks, siding, fencing etc. It is a great nailer never jams and is light to use. My only issue is that the 3-1/2" .131" nails available have about as much holding power as a wet noddle. Has anyone found better framing nails? When I hand nailed I used twist nails that have great holding power.
Pleased so far!

Have used this tool on one small job so far (shot about 1250 nails, two different sizes) and it is as reliable as advertised. Does not wear you out when used all day. I have used a Bostitch nailer previously, and the 350MAG is clearly the better nailer. I am a DIYer, and not a pro. This nailer should last me for a lifetime.

I purchased this framing gun after buying a PC finishing nailer that I abosolutely loved. So far, I have been pretty happy. The first nail out of the gun didn't even make it to the wall. Ever since, it has worked like a charm. I am a home hobbiest and thought that such a large and bulky nailer would be cumbersome to work with, but I have been amazed how well it "feels" in my hand and how little problem I have had with the bulk. Overall, I have been very happy with my purchase.

Can someone answer my question? I have over three different models of Porter Cable finish nailers, brad nailers, and staplers all come with a case. I am very pleased with this line. The FR350 Mag does not come with a case, all of the others I've purchased from this convienent on line store does. Is a case availbe to keep the nailer clean and neatly stored away from, larger gear in my pickup?

I have minimal expertise in this area, so keep this in mind as you read my point of view. However, I know good and bad product concepts and customer relations. pI bought and returned this as it leaked air from the head. It happens. That is not a reason to not buy this. But, no case after many have complained... It has been out for a couple of years.(read reviews) shame on you, PC. A $10 plastic case. Please , how cheap and stupid, PC. The problem is; if you are a framer you may want the light weight, but if you are a home user it may be better to go with the 350 regular. I did after returning the MAG 350. It is not that much more weight, a pound at most. A few reasons. 1)It is $40 less 2) comes with a case 3) Has the dial on the trigger to change from bump fire to sequential (which is good for the less experienced/home user...we be dangerous...some at least...) 4) I have the PC brad and finish guns and called PC almost 2 months ago to get the free trigger to allow bump/continuous nailing...backordered. I may never use the seqential, however, I would like to have this. Why not include this in the box, or, at least have it as a dial on the trigger. 5) It can take a 2" - 3 1/2 nail, the Mag takes a 2 3/8 min -3 /1/2. Better yet, buy a DeWalt D51844 Full Round Head Framing Nailer, Magnesium, 7 .5 lbs. brfor around the same $ , 20 less actually (239- here, at amazon ..the best place to buy tools or anything for that matter ) if you want a lighter tool. I believe it comes with the extra trigger to change from bump to seqential, not a dial, though. But, I do not think it has a case. So, another bunch of clowns. Oh, well. brIs it as good? I would not know. I do know that PC is a less than good company to buy from. So, because PC was not and is not responsive I did not hesitate to order a Bosh Router from Amazon last week. Maybe , I hope, Bosch is more customer responsive. I just bought the Bosch 4000 table saw also, and it is nice.
