Depth of drive is awesome. No tools, just click the dial which is conveniently located and it increments or decrements in 1 millimeter intervals.

br /This framer feels light for its size, yet is very powerful. It shoots standard nails, and I also used the 30 degree paslode FRH (full round head) nails and ring shanks without issue.

br /Rubber grip is comfortable and the tool has rubber bumpers to protect the housing.

br /Not sure about the air sheet to reduce the noise when decoupling the air hose, it still seems pretty loud to me so I don't know why they bothered with that.

br /I don't use LVL's (I prefer steel) so I can't report on super heavy duty wood framing, but for general purpose stuff like walls, floor joists, built-up beams I had no problems toenailing and sinking the heads, even with ringshanks.

br /No complaints except the high price and it could have come with a rafter hook. I would definitely buy it again. By the way, it needs a 3/8" NPT air fitting or you'll need a step down to use it with standard 1/4" air fittings.

br /If you're comparing to the AN922 full round head Makita framer, a BIG difference is the 922 will shoot .162 gauge nails and the 942 is limited to .131 (which is typical).

A few minutes in the tools crib and I found an adapter from Husky about a $1.50 located near the air compressors and 2,000 count box of GripRite GRSP12DZ for $19.97 - now off to build some walls.

br /The gun performed flawless through the first case of nails. No misfires and a LOT less kick back that my buddy's Senco. This gun is truly a one-hand use tool, biggy in my book. The turn style impact gauge is a sweet deal, after having "real green" pine lumber for the wall studs.

br /33 degree paper tap nailers are the key words to locate on the box. The manufacture listed Plastic or Paper for the nail collation material. My comment would be that paper doesn't bounce all around after a nail is fired.

br /I have tried a few flavors of framing nails manufacturers and it appears that 30 - 34 degree nails will all work in this gun. I prefer the paper taped nails, nothing bounces around after firing a nail. Lowes and HomeDepot both stock a good assortment of nails compatible with this model and the price is sometimes awesome, especially when on clearance.

I purchased the AN942 to build myself a shed. I was very happy with the quality of the nailing gun and it's function. After landing approximately 2500 nails into the shed, there were maybe 5 nail jams -- mostly due to the type of nails I was using.

br /There are two things that I like the most about this nailer:
br / - it's weight: It is fairly light compared to other models out on the market
br /- the option of trigger nailing or bump nailing with the flick of a switch! Very nice. After getting used to the gun, bump nailing made the project move along even faster.

br /My only con that I can think of are:
br / - there is no case that comes with this gun?! Your provided w/glasses and oil. Substitute the glasses for a decent case please.
br / - I really wish there was a rafter hook on this gun. could make life easier sometimes.

br /Also, the thread is 3/8" NPT -- so be prepared to have a reducer should you decide to run a 1/4"NPT line.

It came without the hose connection (it was not missing a part, standard delivered configuration is supply your own) so I had to go to a bit of trouble to find a suitable coupling. I do not have a ready source of Makita 31º clipped head nails so I had to find a substitute. I was able to determine that Passload makes full head collated nails that will work well.

br /Once I got the issues sorted out the nailer worked fine. No trouble, great results. I have not had any other framing nailer or much history on this nailer yet so I can't speak to long term reliability but I am very satisfied so far.

br /I got the hose coupling at my local Makita repair shop. The fellow behind the counter said this nailer is no longer being produced. This is an older discontinued model. If you find one for sale it is from someone's inventory. He was willing to assert that I got a good deal as Makita makes a great nailer generally, this one included. He also said he would have no trouble getting parts and repairing it if I ever had any problems.

Good quality nail gun, I've used Paslodes the pass few years, I'm sick of running to the store for fuel. This is a nice choice.

I think Makita has a higher priced model than this one but I am satisfied with this one. I 'ditto' the other reviews on it's lightness and power. It seems to be more powerful than my Max expensive gun that shoots wire collated nails (Bostich types). I like the paper collated Senco type nails. My old Senco was also about as powerful as this one but not nearly as light.

br /There is so far after a few monthes one downside: This gun doesn't have a jam removal opening at the top of gun where the nail is shot (barrel?) Like most other guns out there. I am pleased to report that it rarely jams but when it does you'll probably need other tools such as pliers or just prying the jammed nail with your hammer claws..which seems risky to the future of the tool. But it is so tough nothing has bent as a result of the jammed nails being stuck to the nail and receiving wood. The manual is very useless on this problem but I looked up Makita's manual for the higher priced model which also doesn't have a jammed nail removal "gate" and it suggested that pliers and a pin to push back nail gun piston into it's cylander is the way to fix jams. So next time I'll keep that in mind. 1) push pin back into gun (after disconnecting gun) 2) pull jammed nail out with pliers or vice grips...
