The DeWalt D51823 Clipped Head 2-to-3-1/2-inch Framing Nailer comes with a 7-1/2-pound magnesium housing and aluminum magazine, making this nailer one of the lightest nailers in the industry. A unique engine design generates power to bury nails in both standard framing lumber and engineered lumber with minimal recoil, and a tool-free adjustable depth allows for quick and easy depth of drive setting. Also included is a tool-free quick release jam clearing feature that eliminates downtime by removing bent nails caught in the nose piece. POther features include an integrated rafter hook that allows for increased versatility on the job site, and a dry fire lockout that extends bumper life by preventing the tool from actuating when the magazine is empty. Also included is an impact-resistant exhaust deflector that protects damage to the cap and a trigger lock-off that allows the trigger to be disabled when not in use. I've used proter cable for a long time and I was a bit nervious purchasing this nailer. I've framed 2 houses now in 3 months with this gun, and it is a champ. It has shot about 11 boxes (22,000 nails), It's been dropped from the 2nd story (twice) and generally been abused as most framing guns are, I mean Ive got a 2 x 12 in my other hand, im not setting the nailer down gently right? It gets dropped alot. I've had 3 jams where Ive had to pull off the magazine to clear the driver, thats 3 jams in 22,000 not bad. It just does what it's supose to all day everday, what more could you want?
Only does half the job it is meant to do

When I purchased this gun it seemed to be a winner.Light, powerful , great features. It wasn`t untill I loaded the gun with a new box of 8`s to bang out a sheathing job. This gun will not shoot any brand of 8`s strip nails , tried them all.It seems like the spring holding the strip nails has too much force and buches them together , jamming the gun after three shots. It does shoot 10`s excellent with ease , but for [money], it does half the job of any other nail gun.Try a friends before you buy one....
decent gun

When I got this gun I was really pleased. It's light and fairly powerful. But after framing about 20 houses in the last year or so it just couldn't hold up. The power dropped dramatically and then the nose and trigger gave up.It probably would do great under a less stressful workload.
A Framer's delight

This is a sturdy, well-made gun that fires 3 1/4 and 2 1/2 inchbrclipped heads with equal tenacity. The bump-trigger is very light and I can easily rat-a-tat if I'm not quick off of the "bump". I might switch to a single selective trigger which comes packaged with the tool. Wish I had a carry-box or fabric bag that came with it. I'm ready to tackle several decks now just to feel it work. GREAT Tool !!! C.H. Josephs

I read many reviews before buying a new framer and it was between this one and the paslode. My company builds lots of decks and new homes, so this gun gets a workout. It has worked alongside a couple of paslodes now for about 6 months. It is excellently balance and powered. My only complaint is that after working through the winter in severe cold, it needed a full overhaul (under warranty thankfully) for the seals and O-rings while the paslodes kept right at it. Overall, a great gun, just hope it does not need seals every six months.
Nice features, but...

First off, I own the older model of this DeWalt nailer. I bought it about four years ago when they were offering the $50 rebate. I am a residential remodeler and use this tool a fair amount, but not as much as someone who just does framing. This nailer has some features that I really like. It has tool free depth adjustment, a rafter hook (althought I would feel more confident if it was metal rather than plastic), and I like that the magazine can be removed easily to clear jams. This feature has come in handy on a few occasions. The tool is lightweight and is fairly short from the nose to the rear, which helps when trying to negotiate tighter spaces. The power is okay but not knock your socks off. It will sink a nail flush into an LVL beam, but not much deeper. So far it has been fairly durable. There are a few complaints I have about it. For some reason it tends to misfire quite a bit. It doesn't jam very often, it just doesn't fire a nail on about 5% of the shots. Also, when I am shooting 2 1/4" nails for sheething, the paper strips tend to get "bunched up" and can cause occasional jams. This can get frustrating because when it comes to sheething you're trying to shoot as many nails as possible in a short amount of time. I don't know if DeWalt has fixed any of these problems with this new model. I have looked at it in the store but haven't tried it out yet. It looks like they have made some decent upgrades though.
Amazing, problem-free framing nailer.

I have had this nailer for several months now, and it has done nothing but perform flawlessly. Whether framing or sheathing, it has never misfired once. It has never jammed. The tool free depth adjustment works great. The rafter hook is something I could not live without. The quick release jam clearing feature is also great. (Although I haven't had to use it for clearing jams). This is simply a phenomenal nailer. The only way I would be happier is if DeWalt would include a kit box with this gun.

just got my and disappointed as soon as I opened the shipping box. there is no hard case to for carrying it around. the dewalt finish and brad nailers came with the hard cases. I would NOT buy this frame nailer had I read it thoroughly and recognize it doesn't come with the hard case. Didn't ship with 1 oz oil as stated
